About the project
The risk of social exclusion among the migrant population is worryingly higher than among nationals. Civic integration is more than just learning a language; however, language skills are determinant for the successful integration process. Without speaking the respective national language, it is hardly possible to gain a foothold in a new country. Social cohesion plays a fundamental role in the integration process. Integration means a development & a two-way process in which people in a society jointly develop an understanding of how they want to live together. Migrant women are usually isolated from the host community.
Refugee/Migrant women have disadvantageous preconditions for learning. On average, women have a lower level of schooling and vocational training and are more vulnerable than men. In addition, due to childcare responsibilities, women are less likely to have access to integration supported linguistic offers & are therefore less likely to learn the host language. The lack of opportunities to learn the local country’s language is consequently creating a situation where a significant group of migrants and refugees is being excluded from comprehensive participation in the society.
This project primarily aims to achieve a reduction in the risk of social exclusion of migrant women in our society. This, comes by the promotion of education, enhancing tolerance and motivating of the trainers and the learners for a lifelong learning strategy focusing on the needs of one of the most vulnerable groups: migrant women.
So, Feeling Home project not only focuses at the needs migrant women have, but also aims to improve the competences of educators for the delivery of informal training including digital skills.
Project results
Informal Language Learning activity for Migrants Including Curriculum and Materials.
At least 175 migrant women & teachers from the partner countries will take part in designing, developing and implementing an informal language learning path. This is going to happen through excursions and events with the migrants organized by the local partner. During this process, a language learning informal curriculum including materials & activities will be made. The result will be 5 different guides in 5 languages with favorite spots for migrant women at the partner cities. The process will be recorded, and films will be created.
Open Interactive Learning Platform for Trainers including a Methodology Manual and Learning Space for Migrants
This learning space is customized for the teachers to enhance their teaching opportunities. The second result develops an open, interactive learning space (Moodle) containing the informal learning path created in the first result’s training, the methodology, the activities, materials & the transferability guide that supports other educators to easily adopt this course methodology with their target groups. Further, it provides different upskilling programs for informal and digital teaching strategies & a space for migrant learners. The main objective of the platform is to save the learning experience of first result in a course & to facilitate the implementation of this course by as many institutions as possible working with migrants.
